On July 12, 2006, Iron Mountain experienced a fire at our facility in Prologis Park, Bromley-by-Bow. This facility primarily stored business records for London area organisations. This facility was one of thirty in London; none of the other twenty nine facilities were affected.
Update on the Incident and the Twelvetrees Crescent Site
Incident Investigation
The formal public authority investigation commenced immediately but due to the scale of the investigations we have been unable to bring closure to the incident. The investigations into the matter are particularly complex and time consuming due to the total destruction of the facility and the time it will take to complete the forensic investigations, site demolition and debris removal. Many of these activities are completely outside our control and are inherently time-consuming due to the size of the facility and the nature of the event. Accordingly, we presently expect, based upon the best professional advice at our disposal that the investigation will continue for several months, and perhaps longer. We remain in close contact and cooperation with the Fire Investigation unit of the London Fire Brigade and the Metropolitan Police. We will continue to update you whenever we have something firm to report.
Issuing Final Destruction Certificates
Certificates of destruction with accompanying inventory lists were issued from 1st September for all affected clients. Should any customer require additional support in this regard then please contact your Account Manager directly.
Fire Protection Standards
Iron Mountain has always supported, and continues to support, the orderly development of threat-appropriate and cost-effective fire protection standards based upon technical evidence supported by sound engineering principles. We therefore support - financially and with technical resources - the ongoing fire protection research and regulatory activities of PRISM International (Professional Records & Information Services Management), the not-for-profit organisation for over 540 companies representing approximately 1,200 commercial records centres around the globe. We also are and will remain actively involved with and support NFPA International, whose global mission is to reduce the worldwide burden of fire and other hazards by providing and advocating consensus codes and standards, research, training and education, and we serve on NFPA's Committee on Records Protection.
On-Going Service Provision
The quality of our on-going service is of paramount importance to Iron Mountain. In parallel with the security of our customers' records this is our primary concern. We would like to reassure you that the day-to-day service out of all of our other sites has been unaffected by this incident and our operational staff have continued to perform to our normal high standards. Iron Mountain is prepared for and fully capable of supporting the remainder of your records management needs from our other facilities. We have significant capacity within our London portfolio of properties to accommodate future growth requirements.
