Iron Mountain secures Tektronix' distributed data
~ Connected DataProtector/PC provides automatic backup for electronic information created by both office and home workers ~
November 10 2005
Tektronix, Inc. (NYSE:TEK), a leading worldwide provider of test, measurement and monitoring instrumentation, has selected Iron Mountain to install 550 seats of Connected DataProtector/PC™ , the market-leading data back-up product, throughout its offices in Europe, Middle East and Africa.
As part of its regular tri-annual evaluation of storage infrastructure, Tektronix’ systems team undertook an analysis of products available on the market. It found that Iron Mountain’s PC backup software offered the best protection for corporate data spread across multiple remote locations.
Information stored on the desktops and laptops of Tektronix employees will be automatically and securely captured and backed up centrally, without any user intervention. The data reduction technologies of the Connected DataProtector/PC software means that common files are only sent /stored, once and only incremental changes of files are sent/stored. In case of data loss, users can restore previous versions of a file in three mouse clicks.
“A large number of our employees have home working facilities, so it’s crucial that data is automatically protected, especially when it’s saved locally on a laptop. This solution enables both home and office workers to concentrate on their work, rather than having to constantly remember to back up their data,” said Barry Caruth, Infrastructure Systems Analyst at Tektronix. “We had already successfully implemented Iron Mountain’s software at our corporate headquarters in the US, and from their experience we were able to develop a solution for our distributed environment.”
“Tektronix is a fantastic example of an organisation that encourages flexible working practises. The implementation of the Connected DataProtector/PC software has been managed to ensure a seamless transition from the company’s previous backup solution,” commented Nick Cater, head of Iron Mountain’s
Digital business unit in the UK. “Users can be assured that their important files, such as documents, spreadsheets, proposals, presentations and emails will be securely protected, automatically and quickly, no matter where they choose to work.”
Cater also pointed out: “Iron Mountain’s PC backup software is the recognised market leader for protecting distributed data. Connected DataProtector/PC is an efficient, functional and scalable solution to the challenges inherent in storing and protecting distributed data in today’s workplace.”
