Leeds becomes data vault of the North
~ New Yorkshire data centre will meet growing storage needs of regional businesses ~
November 28 2005
Iron Mountain, the leader in outsourced records and information management
services, is opening a new storage facility in Wakefield. The data centre will
employ up to 30 employees and will securely store over two million boxes of
confidential files and records for local companies such as banks, solicitors
and regional offices of large corporations.
The Wakefield site takes the total number of Iron Mountain storage facilities in
the UK to 63 meeting the growing demand for storage in Leeds and
surrounding areas.
The new building will be opened at 11.30am on Monday, November 28 by the
Mayor of Leeds, Councillor Bill Hyde, and Iron Mountain Europe’s Group
Managing Director, John Prowse.
“Leeds is one of the fastest growing areas in the UK with hundreds of new
businesses opening every month,” said John Prowse. “However, 78% of
companies who lose business critical information and fail to recover it within
ten days go bankrupt. With this in mind, many companies are keen to have
robust business continuity plans in place. Companies are therefore
increasingly storing vital information off-site with a back-up specialist.”
Iron Mountain works with 80 per cent of FTSE companies and its decision to
open a site near Leeds reflects the growth in the region's economy.
The opening will be marked with a lecture by Andy Maurice entitled, “How
legally compliant are your records and information management systems?’
and will offer advice to local businesses on how to secure their business
critical information.
