Iron Mountain Digital expands to the Benelux
Market leader for automatic data protection and user-friendly data restoration of distributed data installs sales management in Benelux.
Schiphol-Rijk, 31 January 2006 – Iron Mountain Digital, the world's largest provider of data backup/recovery and archiving software and services, has expanded its sales activities to the Benelux region. Iron Mountain Digital is the technology business unit of Iron Mountain Incorporated (NYSE: IRM), one of the largest providers worldwide of records management and data protection solutions.
The new business unit, Iron Mountain Digital, was formed after the successful integration of the Connected Corporation, acquired by Iron Mountain in November 2004. The Connected DataProtector™ offerings, Connected DataProtector/PCTM for PC backup and Connected DataProtector/SVTM for backup of Windows® servers, were combined with the technology offerings of Iron Mountain, Digital Archives and Electronic Vaulting solutions.
Iron Mountain's Connected DataProtector™ solutions deliver unmatched scalability, through patented data reduction technologies. Besides advanced compression techniques, Iron Mountain's Connected DataProtector uses the patented Delta Block® technology to minimize network traffic and reduce backup time. Delta Block allows only changed sets — at the block level — to be saved, so that, when a document changes, only the changes are backed up. A second patented technology, SendOnce®, backs up common files to a SendOnce pool, preventing extra copies of shared files from being stored in multiple user archives. As a result, users don't waste the time and bandwidth of storing the same files over and over again. The solution shrinks the overall volume of stored files, enabling information from as many as 20,000 PCs to be stored on a single mirrored server.
Iron Mountain's Connected DataProtector/PC technology supports fast and automatic data storage from laptops and desktop PC's. On every laptop or PC, an agent is installed to control communications between the PC and the backup data center. Anywhere in the world, this agent provides a secure connection with the data center. As soon as a notebook user accesses the internet, for example, a secured backup process is started.
For the protection of distributed data on remote servers Iron Mountain extended its Connected DataProtector™ solutions to incorporate server backup. The Connected DataProtector/SV™ software automatically protects Microsoft Windows 2003 file and print servers using the same data reduction technologies as its PC backup product, already used by more than 800 corporate clients. The Connected DataProtector/SV software provides the highest level of digital security available, and enables companies to back up as many remote servers as required, with minimum strain to the network, data centre and IT department. The product uses the same patented Delta Block® and Send Once® technology found in Iron Mountain's Connected DataProtector/PC solution.
Iron Mountain's Connected DataProtector/PC is available as a licensed product or as a subscription service. Iron Mountain Connected DataProtector/SV for Windows Servers is perfectly suited for (smaller) company branch offices and is available as a licensed product. Both Connected DataProtector/PC and Connected DataProtector/SV both utilize encryption technologies to secure data as it transferred and stored.
