December 6, 2006 - Iron Mountain Incorporated (NYSE:IRM) has announced the acquisition of GbD Gesellschaft für beleglose Dokumentenbearbeitung, a subsidiary of Lufthansa Systems AG.
Iron Mountain, the global leader in information protection and storage services, entered Germany in 1999. It has grown to operate a nationwide footprint servicing local and global customers across the country. GbD specialises in the scanning, processing and subsequent archiving of digitised corporate documents.
"As a company, we are investing in our Document Management Solutions offering across Europe, as we see the trend towards the integration of physical and digital information accelerating. Germany is a key priority focus for Iron Mountain, and we are committed to growing the scale of our business here," added Marc Duale, President of Iron Mountain Europe.
With its acquisition of GbD, Iron Mountain is responding to increasing business demand for solutions for scanning commercial documents and files, lowering storage costs and simplifying the processes of searching and handling documents.
"We already provide records management and off-site data protection services to Germany's major business centres and are now expanding our portfolio of solutions available in Germany," explained Sophie Peson, General Manager of Iron Mountain Deutschland GmbH. "The addition of the GbD services is a strategic move for us. We are excited to welcome the employees of GbD into the Iron Mountain family and to be able to offer their customers a wider range of services."
GbD, Gesellschaft für beleglose Dokumentenbearbeitung, is based in Hamburg, northern Germany, and employs around 130 staff. GbD's core business focuses on scanning and processing flight vouchers for airline and industrial companies' billing processes.
GbD's customers and employees will benefit from the focus and resources available from a global leader in information protection and storage services like Iron Mountain. The GbD portfolio includes document management services that can be leveraged in a broad range of markets outside of the airline and aviation sector. Iron Mountain's acquisition will allow GbD to develop these market opportunities and expand its product offering.
