Carbon Capital Markets changes IT climate to automated backup
Backup Direct and Iron Mountain Digital partner to safeguard
mission-critical company data

August 9, 2007 – Carbon emissions trader Carbon Capital Markets has opted for an online, automated backup and recovery solution to ensure continuous backup of crucial company information.

The company has selected Backup Direct to provide Iron Mountain Digital's LiveVault® Server Backup and Recovery solution.

The LiveVault service offered by Backup Direct automatically and securely backs up the data on Carbon Capital Markets' systems over the internet to Iron Mountain Digital's data centres - thus ensuring that the business can recover in the event of a disaster, systems failure or data loss. The backup can be performed as often as every 15 minutes thus significantly improving the Recovery Point Objective (RPO) for Carbon Capital Markets.

The move to automatic backup and recovery was driven by the need for a more reliable and accurate approach to data backup and recovery both from a technology and human resources points of view. It is also helping Carbon Capital Markets meet the data retention policies set by the Financial Services Authority (FSA), which regulates the activities of all financial service providers in the UK.

Carbon Capital Markets invited a number of IT backup specialists to pitch for the contract. It selected Backup Direct, in partnership with Iron Mountain Digital, based on their specialist expertise and ability to deliver and support this mission-critical service.

“We found the tape-based system that we were using reliable but we wanted to have a two-level backup policy of using a tape system and an offsite system to safeguard our vital company information,” explained Mark Flitter, Information Technology manager at Carbon Capital Markets. “As a company that has users working from various international time zones, our data is constantly being updated. We needed the additional ability to backup data outside of the scheduled times of a standard backup policy. The service available with Backup Direct / Iron Mountain has enabled us to achieve this,” he added.
