Opening of Iron Mountain’s Birmingham Flagship Site
Confirms West Midlands as Security Storage Hub

Opened by the Lord Mayor of Birmingham, this facility brings the total number of Iron Mountain records management sites in the city to eight, cementing the West Midlands’ position as a key secure storage hub.

Iron Mountain’s new Birmingham hub provides extensive capacity. With a volume of 1.5 million cubic feet and a potential to expand to an area of 133,000 square feet, the facility could:

• absorb the contents of more than 16 Olympic-sized swimming pools;
• at full expansion, easily contain the NEC Arena; and
• grow to nearly twice the size of the pitch at Birmingham City’s St Andrew’s stadium.

A key aspect of the new Birmingham facility is its focus on secure storage. It boasts sophisticated security measures, constructed to Iron Mountain’s tough European Security and Fire Protection Standards. These include: steel palisade perimeter fencing with automatically controlled gates; extensive 24 hour CCTV covering the building and its boundaries; enhanced staff security training and vetting; high tech, monitored alarm systems; an air aspirating smoke detection system; and a National Fire Protection Association compliant sprinkler system covering the entire building.
